ROHM Develops 100V MOSFET for Automotive Safety Functions
KYOTO, Japan, Sept. 16, 2026 /Kyodo JBN/ – ROHM Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of the RS4P063BPHZG, a high-performance 100V MOSFET specifically designed for automotive safety functions and protection circuits. This innovative product features a Wide-SOA (Safe Operating Area) that ensures reliability across various voltage ranges, housed in the popular HPLF5060 (5060-size) package utilized in automotive applications.
Key Features:
- Enhanced SOA: The RS4P063BPHZG offers approximately five times the SOA tolerance of standard products within the same size when tested under VDS=100V and PW=100 microseconds. This improvement is pivotal for automotive systems facing momentary high-power loads, such as airbag inflator ignition circuits and seat belt pretensioners.
- Standard Package Design: By adopting the widely-used 5060-size package, ROHM simplifies the replacement evaluation process for existing layouts, significantly reducing design change workloads and associated costs.
Increasing Demand in Automotive Electrification
With the growing trend toward vehicle electrification, there’s an escalating need for automotive systems capable of handling higher voltages and currents. MOSFETs used in safety functions and protection circuits must possess high SOA capabilities to cope with potential high-power loads during emergencies or abnormal conditions.
ROHM’s established expertise in providing Wide-SOA products for sectors like AI servers and industrial power supplies now extends to the automotive market, ensuring that the RS4P063BPHZG meets stringent safety and performance standards.
Future Developments
ROHM is actively working on additional Wide-SOA MOSFETs, including those in the HPLF8080 (8.0 x 8.0 mm) and TOLG (TO-Leaded with Gullwing, 9.9 x 11.7 mm) packages. The company aims to further expand its offerings for automotive safety functions and protection circuits.
Application Examples:
- Airbag inflator ignition circuits
- Seat belt pretensioners
- Pyro-fuse drive circuits for battery cutoff
- Other automotive safety functions exposed to high-current and high-voltage stress
