Pinal County Farm Shuts Down Following Cleanup Due to Monsoon Flooding

Pinal County, AZ — Monsoon storms this week have left Hayden Acres, a family-owned farm, severely affected with flooding. Owner Joshua Hill reported that one corral was submerged under three feet of water, leading to approximately 100 animals being confined to limited dry areas.

Hill is concerned about the financial impact and fears that it might take weeks for normal operations to resume, including providing educational spaces for children at the farm. He described how heavy rain created a rushing river onto the property late Wednesday night.

Nicole Waters, who runs the Sunshine Integrative Microschool at the farm, noted that flooding caused significant disruptions, including cancellations of Thursday classes. Hill criticized the county for inadequate drainage management, stating that similar incidents occurred last year.

Pinal County responded, explaining that they are limited to work on public roads and cannot assist with private property issues. They acknowledged the ongoing flooding history in the area and indicated that recent rains exacerbated the situation.

Despite the challenges, Waters reached out for help on social media, garnering an overwhelming response from the community, with over 75 offers of assistance, equipment, and even alternative housing for the animals. Waters expressed gratitude for the support, saying it reflects a strong sense of community.
