Louisiana Leaders Advocate for U.S. Space Academy in New Orleans
New Orleans, La. — Local leaders from Southeast Louisiana are pushing for NASA to locate its U.S. Space Academy in New Orleans.
Prominent figures like Congressman Steve Scalise and Governor Jeff Landry have highlighted the region’s robust aerospace infrastructure and its promising future as a hub for the space industry. New Orleans is home to NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility, which plays a crucial role in building rockets for lunar missions.
Additionally, Elon Musk’s SpaceX is developing a new launchpad in Southwest Louisiana, contributing to an emerging space ecosystem along the state’s coast.
Congressman Scalise expressed his belief in Louisiana’s potential:
“There is no better place for the U.S. Space Academy to develop the next generation of space explorers, engineers, and innovators than Southeast Louisiana, home to America’s Rocket Factory. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, Louisiana is in a position to build on its 60-year NASA relationship and help safeguard the nation’s economic and national security. With our manufacturing infrastructure, private sector momentum, and mission-ready educational institutions, we know the U.S. Space Academy can thrive in Louisiana and produce a pipeline of leaders who can advance American space dominance for generations.”
