Adrianos Golemis has made history as the first Greek astronaut set to travel into space in 2027. Selected for the ESA Astronaut Reserve, Golemis, a 40-year-old scientist, is currently undergoing rigorous training across three continents for a mission to the International Space Station, which is scheduled for July 2027.
Reflecting on his journey, Golemis described his aspiration to become an astronaut as a “crazy idea” from his childhood. He expressed gratitude for the support from the Hellenic Space Center, the Ministry of Digital Governance, and various Greek researchers and companies, stating, “We will do the best we can to conduct research from Greece, in space.”
As part of his training, Golemis is learning skills specific to his role in the mission, with a focus on efficiently conducting experiments in microgravity. He emphasized the significance of Greece’s first involvement in an astronaut mission, balancing his excitement with the need for thorough preparation to ensure success.
Golemis’s comments highlight the progress Greece has made in the field of space exploration and his commitment to representing the country on this groundbreaking journey.
