Pikachu Goes Galactic! ESA and Pokémon Collaborate to Bring the Electric Mouse to the ISS

Pikachu Becomes an Outer Space Ambassador with ESA

Pikachu is officially representing Earth as part of a new collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA) and The Pokémon Company International (TPCI), in celebration of World Space Week 2026, scheduled from October 4 to 10.

To launch this exciting partnership, a Pikachu toy experienced life aboard the International Space Station (ISS) from April 11 to June 17, making 1,040 orbits and spending 67 days in space alongside seven astronauts, including ESA’s Sophie Adenot from SpaceX’s Crew-12 mission.

This fusion of pop culture and science will lead to special exhibitions and interactive programs at ESA sites and major museums throughout Europe this fall. ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher highlighted that this initiative aims to inspire future generations by connecting them with space through engaging experiences.

Exclusive merchandise, including apparel and collectibles, will be available during the collaboration. Additionally, there will be a promotional event in Pokémon GO, featuring gameplay from October 4, 2026, to April 30, 2027, at participating science and space museums.

The exhibition will kick off across various ESA locations during the ESA Open Days 2026, including events in Paris, Rome, and the UK. It aims to educate visitors about Europe’s space activities through themed Pokémon character panels and interactive displays.

Overall, this partnership promises to spark curiosity and encourage exploration of our universe, enhancing the Pokémon experience with a cosmic twist. For more information, you can visit ESA’s official website.
