Nevada’s Lt. Governor envisions the state as a potential site for a space academy.

Nevada Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony is advocating for the state to bid for NASA’s Space Academy, aiming to host the facility by 2028. He believes Nevada’s infrastructure, including its federal land and existing military sites, make it well-suited for space exploration.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman described the Space Academy as similar to maritime academies, where thousands of new recruits for NASA and the Space Force could be trained. While states like Florida, Texas, and California have ocean access and existing NASA bases, Nevada’s unique resources could make it a strong contender.

The goal is to have a temporary setup ready for cadets by 2028 and a permanent site operational by 2031, which would also contribute to Nevada’s economic diversification, potentially boosting sectors like space tourism.
