Marysville Police Close 21 Unlawful Massage Establishments in Human Trafficking Initiative

Marysville police have undertaken a significant investigation into illicit massage businesses, identifying 23 such operations in the city. As a result, they confirmed that 21 of these businesses were involved in illicit activities, leading to various closures: eight businesses shut down through criminal investigations, five through administrative inspections, and one closed voluntarily. Additionally, six business license applications were denied, and one applicant withdrew their request.

Several individuals have been arrested on charges related to promoting and permitting prostitution, though details on the number of arrests remain undisclosed. This investigation was initiated in May 2025, following information from The Network, a nonprofit addressing human trafficking linked to illicit massage services. Police uncovered connections to a wider international trafficking network through victim interviews.

Marysville’s ProAct Team has engaged in various law enforcement activities, including undercover operations and inspections, aiming to enhance licensing oversight. Chief Erik Scairpon emphasized the importance of addressing human trafficking networks that often utilize storefronts to blend into communities. Mayor Jon Nehring noted that community concerns spurred this swift response from the police department.

Moving forward, the city plans to maintain its approach through criminal investigations, inspections, and proactive licensing measures, while also providing support services for trafficking victims.
