Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in Atlanta
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize the contributions and impact of the Latino community in the United States. A notable mural on the Atlanta Beltline serves as a testament to this celebration.
Artist Lisette Correa’s Tribute
Lisette Correa, known as Arrtaddict, painted her first large-scale mural in Atlanta in 2019, located on the Edgewood Avenue bridge. This artwork pays tribute to Puerto Rican culture and her grandmother, symbolizing the importance of indigenous women in her heritage.
Creative Challenges
Correa faced significant challenges during the mural’s creation, working through frigid winter temperatures for three months, requiring heated vests and multiple layers of clothing.
Message of Unity
Through her work, Correa aims to unify people by highlighting diverse stories and respecting various histories. She expresses gratitude for the ability to inspire and share stories through her art.
Ongoing Contributions
Since her first mural, Correa has created nearly 90 others across Atlanta, including pieces at Little Five Points and Krog Street. Additionally, she designed this year’s Atlanta United scarf, set to be released on October 10.
By celebrating heritage through art, Correa continues to inspire and bring communities together.
