The U-EXPAND project has officially launched in Rome, spearheaded by a consortium led by D-Flight. The initiative, backed by the SESAR Joint Undertaking, aims to develop technologies enhancing the U-space ecosystem over the next three years.
Key aspects of the project include:
-
CNS Technologies: The project will focus on advanced communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) technologies for U-space operations, including the use of public 5G networks as shared aviation infrastructure.
-
Three Solutions:
- Advanced CNS Capabilities: Developing new standards for CNS systems tailored for U3 U-space services with 5G networks.
- e-Conspicuity for U-space: Creating a location-sharing system for general aviation pilots utilizing GNSS signals to improve traffic awareness.
- Integration of Crewed and Uncrewed Aircraft: Extending U-space digital services to visual flight rules (VFR) pilots operating inside and outside designated airspace.
The consortium convened at ENAV’s premises in Rome to officially kick off the project.
