Scania and sennder’s collaboration, Juna, has made significant strides in deploying electric trucks (e-trucks) across Europe, with over 100 units currently operational. This fleet, which spans Germany, Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands, is anticipated to reach around 150 trucks by year-end.
The innovative pay-per-use model allows carriers to access e-trucks without the burden of ownership, facilitating a more sustainable approach to freight transport. Additionally, this model helps shippers reduce their emissions. With typical e-truck costs being two to three times higher than diesel counterparts, Juna’s strategy addresses the financial challenge, especially for smaller fleets.
Since its inception, Juna’s fleet has covered 3.9 million kilometers, collaborating with major partners like Nestlé and Beiersdorf to promote CO₂ reduction in freight and logistics operations. Scania’s VP, Gustaf Sundell, emphasized that the initiative not only demonstrates the viability of e-trucks for carriers but also supports shippers in achieving decarbonization goals.
