Amcor introduces upside-down pet food container in China to improve serving experience.

Amcor has teamed up with Ge Wu An, a premium pet food brand under Shanghai Jianmo Biotechnology, to launch the Li Kou pet food cup—reportedly the first of its kind in China. This innovative inverted-cup design allows pet owners to easily peel, invert, tear, and lift the entire meal into a bowl, minimizing mess and hassle.

The packaging features a polypropylene (PP) cup body along with a top lidding film and a bottom seal film, which was developed over a year through Amcor’s Catalyst innovation platform. Jessica Chen from Amcor Flexibles China emphasizes how this solution enhances the consumer experience, from opening to serving.

Li Kou addresses common issues with traditional pet food cans, such as broken pull rings and sharp edges, offering a lightweight alternative that reduces material usage and transportation weight. Liu Mengru from Ge Wu An notes the focus on improving the consumer experience to ensure pets receive complete nutrition with less cleanup effort.

The new product was officially launched at a Shanghai event ahead of the 28th Pet Fair Asia, with Jijian Li of Amcor highlighting how details like ease of opening and residue influence consumer decisions. As China’s market shifts toward “premium pet ownership,” the demand for convenient, safe, and sustainable packaging is on the rise.

Amcor is expanding its presence in the Asian market, having recently received accreditation for its Asia Pacific Innovation Center, which can now provide internationally recognized test data, facilitating regulatory approval and market access. Additionally, the company has made significant investments to enhance healthcare packaging production in India and Malaysia.
