Denise Cruz, a high school Spanish teacher, has transformed her passion for literature into a thriving local business in Bellmore. After successfully operating The Wandering Page as a traveling book truck, she opened a physical bookstore this summer, aiming to create a joyful space for creativity and socializing.
Cruz and her husband established the brick-and-mortar location to enhance their community, where they raised their children. The Latina-owned bookstore has quickly become a focal point for local events, including author readings, book clubs, and creative workshops. It also offers unique experiences, such as a “blind date with a book,” where customers pick a mystery title based solely on its genre.
Cruz’s love for literature stems from her experience learning English through books after immigrating from the Dominican Republic. Her mission includes promoting works by independent and diverse authors, especially those from Long Island. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and while she now has a permanent location, her book truck continues to appear at various outdoor events across Long Island.
