UMass Women’s Soccer Continues Strong Season with 3-0 Win Over Northeastern

On a rainy Sunday afternoon in Boston, the Massachusetts women’s soccer team showcased their powerful offense and solid defense, defeating Northeastern 3-0. This victory marks UMass’s sixth win of the season, surpassing last year’s total of five with two-thirds of the season still remaining.

Key Performances:
Caroline Dickson was a standout, netting two goals, while Monica Curry added another. Dickson’s second goal came in the 72nd minute, extending UMass’s lead to 2-0, assisted by Libby Fisher. The forward’s first goal came earlier, also assisted by Nia Hislop, showcasing her consistent offensive prowess.

Dickson has emerged as a key player this season, now with six total goals, a notable improvement from last season’s three goals in 17 games.

Curry, a freshman, proved her value as well, scoring her sixth goal of the season unassisted in the 78th minute. She and Dickson are tied for the team lead in goals, each contributing significantly to UMass’s success.

Defensive Excellence:
The Minutewomen’s defense, anchored by Leah Nisenfeld in goal, was critical to the shutout. Nisenfeld blocked all seven of Northeastern’s shots on target, demonstrating her skill and reliability.

As UMass prepares to start Mid-American Conference play on Thursday, both the offense and defense look poised for a successful season ahead. The team’s next match is scheduled for September 17 at 4 p.m. against Ball State and will be streamed on ESPN+.
