STARCARES Completes Sports Court Renovation in Sukhothai, Thailand

STARCARES has successfully renovated the sports court at Ban Nam Lat School, creating a multi-use space for physical education and community activities. The upgraded facility is now available for students during the week and opens to local residents after hours and on weekends.
The renovation serves 62 students at the school and, on weekends, accommodates approximately 600 local residents from 180 households. This initiative aligns with STARCARES’ mission to support accessible, shared spaces in rural areas.
In many rural parts of Sukhothai, schools often serve as the only communal gathering spots due to a lack of recreational infrastructure. Recognizing this need, STARCARES designed the court to prioritize student use, transitioning to a community space outside school hours.
A young child from the local community recently joined Ban Nam Lat School students for a game on the court, emphasizing the project’s goal of fostering unity and belonging among children.

This project in Thailand is part of STARCARES’ larger commitment to revitalizing shared spaces for long-term use, with similar initiatives planned in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Nigeria. To ensure ongoing usability, STARCARES will fund maintenance for these courts every one to two years.
