A woman in Germany is under investigation for allegedly sealing her pet snake in a tied plastic bag and discarding it in a train garbage bin. The incident occurred in North Rhine-Westphalia, where a conductor witnessed the act and reported it to the police. Officers discovered the live corn snake, identified as a non-venomous Pantherophis guttatus, among the trash.
The woman claimed she wanted to abandon the snake after finding it “too boring and too expensive” and had intended to pretend it was a stray. After retrieving the snake, authorities released her but are investigating potential violations of animal protection laws.
While the snake posed no immediate danger, the act endangered both the animal and nearby passengers. This incident highlights a broader issue of animal neglect and cruelty, as other recent cases of abandoned or harmed animals have emerged.
