PHILADELPHIA, PA — Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA) has selected a vibrant ruby red, named “Redefined,” as its 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year, unveiled at Automechanika Frankfurt. This choice highlights a trend toward deeper, dimensional finishes in vehicle design.
The new color combines a rich ruby hue with reflective effects, enhancing visual depth that shifts with changing lighting conditions. This marks a return to red after 13 years, following the popularity of Radiant Red, the inaugural color in Axalta’s Global Automotive Color of the Year program.
According to Axalta, advancements in pigments and color science enable manufacturers to achieve this nuanced effect. Matthew Boland, vice president of global refinish technology at Axalta, stated that “Redefined” embodies a direction towards more individualized automotive colors that still honor traditional palettes.
“Redefined represents where we see automotive color going: expressive and individual, yet refined and timeless,” Boland remarked.
