Two minors were arrested in a self-driving Waymo car in San Francisco after police received a report about a firearm on September 3, 2026. The individuals, a boy and a girl, were found with an AR-style “ghost gun,” which lacks a serial number and can be assembled from parts. Alongside the weapon, officers also discovered suspected marijuana and mace.
Waymo reported the incident after detecting a violation of its terms of service and contacted the authorities. This isn’t the first instance of Waymo reporting passenger behavior; in July, police responded to a report of two teenagers drinking and allegedly shooting from a vehicle, which turned out to involve harmless water beads.
In light of these events, the San Mateo Police Department emphasized the importance of parents knowing their children’s whereabouts.
