Three Reasons I Believe Cathie Wood Is Reinvesting in Robinhood Stock

Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest recently made notable purchases of Robinhood stock, buying 28,589 shares on September 4 and another 27,083 shares after Labor Day, despite having sold off shares earlier in the summer. The firm’s shift to buying indicates a strategy change, although Wood hasn’t publicly detailed her reasoning.

Here are three key factors that may explain why ARK Invest is back in Robinhood:

  1. Event Contracts Growth: Robinhood’s event contracts—market predictions—are outpacing other products, generating $156 million in Q2 revenue, significantly more than crypto trading. Despite a drop in trading volumes in August compared to July, the yearly growth is substantial.

  2. Increased Assets: Robinhood reported an 8% increase in total platform assets to $384 billion by the end of August, with 1.9 million new funded customers. This expansion provides a solid base for further monetization.

  3. Greater Borrowing by Customers: Margin balances rose to $21.5 billion, highlighting increased customer engagement and borrowing. This trend suggests users are willing to leverage their portfolios, enhancing Robinhood’s potential revenue stream.

While the company’s recent performance is strong, the stock is seen as a hold rather than a buy at its current valuation, which anticipates significant growth. If the price drops or event contracts continue scaling effectively, investor sentiment may shift.
