Phoenix expands availability of sanctioned urban camping area.

The Phoenix City Council has approved a zoning change to continue the operation of the Safe Outdoor Space, a designated area for urban camping. This 5.5-acre site, located at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Jackson Street, was established in 2023 and can accommodate up to 200 campsites under city-provided tents. Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington praised the city’s Office of Homeless Solutions for their efforts to enhance the facility and support its residents.
