Gaming magnate mandated to pay former spouse $1.8 billion in South Korea’s largest divorce agreement.

A South Korean court has awarded gaming tycoon Kwon Hyuk-bin a record divorce settlement, directing him to transfer assets worth 2.55 trillion won ($1.8 billion) to his ex-wife, Lee. The Seoul Family Court ruled in favor of a 35-65 division of their marital assets, recognizing Lee’s contributions during the establishment and growth of Smilegate, the gaming company founded by Kwon. Despite this judgment, the court dismissed Lee’s damages claim, attributing equal responsibility for the marriage’s breakdown to both parties. Lee retains parental rights for their minor child, while Kwon is required to pay monthly child support totaling 20 million won ($14,700).
