Invest 96-L May Become Tropical Depression in Atlantic, NHC Says
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring an area of low pressure in the Atlantic that has the potential to develop into the next tropical depression.
An area of low pressure tied to a tropical wave is situated several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, according to the NHC’s latest update. Although showers and thunderstorms related to this system have shown some improvement in organization, forecasters indicate that the circulation is not yet well-defined.
Environmental conditions are moderately favorable for development over the next couple of days, suggesting that a tropical depression could form within one or two days as the system progresses westward to west-northwestward at nearly 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. However, the NHC warns that conditions are expected to become less favorable by this weekend, potentially hindering further development.
