Johnson College’s Automotive Technology and Collision Repair program has received a significant donation: a 2021 Nissan Sentra from Nissan North America and Tom Hesser Nissan. This vehicle will enhance hands-on training for students, ensuring they engage with modern automotive technologies.
Program Director Jim Williams emphasized the importance of this donation, stating it allows students to work with a vehicle that mirrors current industry standards. The Sentra will be utilized across various coursework areas, including brakes, steering, suspension systems, engine performance, HVAC, and automatic transmission lessons.
Enrollment in Johnson College’s automotive program has been rising, showcasing a growing interest in automotive careers. Jason Sileo, Parts and Service Director at Tom Hesser Nissan, noted that the donation is part of their commitment to support workforce development, especially given the current technician shortage in the industry. The dealership has a history of collaboration with the college, including hiring graduates and providing internship opportunities, underlining their focus on connecting students with career prospects in the automotive field.
