Celebrity Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Youth Programs in West Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. (WBBJ) – On Tuesday, some of West Tennessee’s biggest names traded their offices for the greens at Bent Tree Golf Course, but this tournament was about more than just golf. For years, the Celebrity Golf Classic has raised substantial funds for various programs throughout the region.
The 15th Annual Follow Me Into Business Celebrity Golf Classic kicked off with celebrity guests, including NFL legend Ed “Too Tall” Jones and former Titans linebacker Avery Williamson. The goal is to unite West Tennessee for the benefit of the next generation.
Deswick Bonds Jr., executive director of the Legacy Chamber of West Tennessee, emphasized the importance of coming together for a greater cause, stating, “To gather for a greater cause more than ourselves for the next generation to help build them.”
Every swing at the tournament supported the Follow Me Into Business, a Youth Entrepreneurship and STEM program run by the Legacy Chamber. Clarissa Williams, the chamber’s Board of Directors president, explained that the program targets youth aged 13 to 18, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills and preparing them for real-world business scenarios.
Jackson Energy Authority sponsored the event, highlighting its impact beyond the golf course. “It’s a life changer for these young people and helps employers all over West Tennessee,” said Steve Bowers, representing the organization.
Support also came from JMCSS, West Tennessee Healthcare, and numerous local businesses, showcasing how partnerships formed during the tournament often extend well beyond the event itself.
