Announcement: Jayson Wells Joins Washington Men’s Basketball Staff
SEATTLE – Washington head men’s basketball coach Danny Sprinkle has officially appointed Jayson Wells as the Director of Mindset & Culture.
Wells comes to Washington after two seasons as an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton, where he worked under head coach Dedrique Taylor, a former assistant of Sprinkle’s from 2013-19. Previously, he assisted the Titans as a skills development and mental performance coach, focusing on off-court mindset and leadership content to enhance team culture.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Wells is the founder of Jayson’s Playground and the Shoes Have Souls Podcast. He has been active in motivational speaking and skills development since retiring from professional basketball in 2010.
From 2017 to 2024, he served as a business consultant with Chapman & Co. Leadership Institute, receiving the Client Impact Award. He also facilitated for notable clients, including American Airlines and Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Wells was the director of skill development with Nike Grassroots Basketball from 2012 to 2017, overseeing the Nike Elite 100 events and providing instruction at camps featuring legends like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
His playing career spanned 13 years overseas after he graduated from Indiana State University in 1998. Throughout his career, he won championships in Finland, Ukraine, and Israel, and was recognized as an All-Pro player in Sweden, Australia, and Israel. Notably, he ranked as the top rebounder in the Israeli Basketball Premier League during the 2003-04 season.
In high school, Wells led Cleveland Central Catholic to consecutive North Coast League titles and later excelled at Indiana State by leading his team in scoring and rebounding, earning All-Missouri Valley first team honors during his senior year.
