Largest Cannon in the World Set to Launch Satellites into Orbit

The World’s Largest Gun Aims to Shoot Satellites Into Space

When rockets launch payloads into orbit, the bulk of their weight is typically fuel. Longshot Space aims to revolutionize this process with a more efficient method: launching satellites using the world’s largest gun.

The Concept

Longshot Space intends to utilize massive cannons that employ compressed gas to propel satellites. Unlike traditional guns that deliver a single explosive burst, Longshot’s design employs multiple bursts to accelerate payloads through a barrel that could stretch for miles.

Suitability of Payloads

For this method to work, satellites must be built to endure significant shock. While the company believes this is possible, it’s important to note that such a method wouldn’t be feasible for sensitive cargo, particularly human passengers.
