U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody is advocating for Florida to be the chosen location for President Donald Trump’s proposed U.S. Space Academy, aimed at training the next generation of space professionals. The initiative seeks to enhance American interests in space by developing a workforce of astronauts, scientists, engineers, and more.
Moody recently held a news conference spotlighting Cape Canaveral’s long-standing contribution to the space industry, supported by Space Florida and the Space Coast Economic Development Commission. She emphasized that Florida is the leading contender, stating, “We are America’s space state… ready to lead the way into the next era of American space leadership.”
In addition to her advocacy, Moody plans to introduce legislation in the Senate to formally designate Florida’s Space Coast as the home for the new academy. Alongside her, Rep. Mike Haridopolos expressed strong support, highlighting Brevard County’s reputation as the “Space Coast” and asserting that Florida has the necessary infrastructure and expertise to succeed.
Haridopolos is also preparing House legislation in collaboration with Rep. Byron Donalds, who is running for Governor. The academy will train future aerospace industry leaders, serving both the U.S. Space Force and the civilian space flight sector.
