e’s Club Louisville Launches for Neurodivergent Teens
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Erin’s Hope for Friends Kentucky is teaming up with the Bluegrass Center for Autism to introduce e’s Club Louisville. This new initiative aims to create a safe space where neurodivergent teens and young adults can connect, engage in activities, and foster friendships.
The club is designed to address social isolation and acceptance challenges faced by many neurodivergent individuals. “A lot of them struggle to feel accepted by their peers or to feel understood by their peers,” explained Alison Keefe, executive director of Erin’s Hope for Friends Kentucky.
This nonprofit organization was founded in memory of 17-year-old Erin Horst, who tragically died by suicide in 2014 after experiencing bullying and social isolation. Keefe noted that many neurodivergent individuals often lack the peer support systems that others may take for granted.
Research from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine indicates that autistic adults are 25 times more likely to attempt suicide than their non-autistic counterparts. In response, e’s Club aims to provide a nurturing environment that fosters genuine friendships through games, art, and various activities.
“By providing them with a safe space, we’re able to help them feel safe to be their true selves and to find those true friendships,” Keefe said.
With over 100 members already joining e’s Club Lexington—some even traveling from Louisville to participate—members have shared how the club has profoundly impacted their lives. Keefe mentioned that several have expressed how e’s Club “has saved their life by giving them their first true friendships as teenagers.”
The nonprofit is actively working to expand e’s Club Louisville with exciting programs and activities to further support its members.
