The second annual Green Week is set to take place in Chaffee County from September 21-26, featuring a series of free events focused on sustainable living and energy efficiency.
Kicking off the week is the Climate Future Film Festival on September 21 at 7 p.m., held at the Salida SteamPlant. The festival showcases films from four continents aimed at igniting conversation about climate change. Tickets for general admission are priced at $12.51 and can be purchased at Eventbrite.
On September 23 at 6 p.m., a Green Drinks event will be hosted at The Office Bar. This session will cover energy audits, providing attendees with insights on energy-saving opportunities for their homes, and admission is free.
The next Green Drinks event on September 24 at 6 p.m. at Elevation Beer Co. will explore battery storage systems. Local homeowners and installers will share their experiences with battery backups, including cost-efficiency and comfort. This event is also free to attend.
The week wraps up on September 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Green Homes Tour, starting at the Salida Farmers Market. This self-guided tour offers a glimpse into eco-friendly homes featuring sustainable designs, solar arrays, heat pumps, and hemp construction. The tour is free of charge.
Julie Mach, the regional sustainability coordinator for Chaffee County, emphasized that Green Week is about empowering the community to make informed choices regarding resource usage.
