Carl Space’s Journey to Centre College Golf
Transferring for Love and Growth
Carl Space, former golfer at Eastern Kentucky University, has made a significant life choice by transferring to Centre College. One major influence for his move was his girlfriend, Riley Snowden, a volleyball player at Centre. Space wanted to support her and watch her play more frequently, something that was difficult with their conflicting schedules at EKU.
Finding Balance in Golf and Life
As Space reflects on his journey, he acknowledges that the pressures of professional golf are daunting. He stated that playing at a Division III school like Centre allows him to enjoy the sport without the added stress that often accompanies Division I athletics. He emphasizes the importance of balance in life, noting that his faith and education remain priorities, regardless of his performance on the golf course.
A Supportive Coaching Environment
Recruited by Centre’s new coach, Ben Fuqua, Space found excitement in continuing his golf career under a coach renowned for his supportive nature. Fuqua’s insights into the mental aspects of golf have proven invaluable, with Space learning how to focus on each shot rather than the overall score.
Pursuing Professional Dreams
Though Space has shifted his approach, he still harbors dreams of pursuing a professional golf career. He remains dedicated to training and competing, and he understands the competition he faces at the Division III level. He approaches each tournament with optimism while respecting the skills of his teammates and competitors.
Educational Aspirations and Study Abroad
As an economics and finance major, Space looks forward to opportunities that Centre College offers, including studying abroad—a prospect that once seemed daunting but now excites him as a unique chance to learn and explore.
