Pilot Program Unveils Unique K-Culture Experience in Busan
A new initiative in Busan is set to deepen foreign visitors’ connection to Korea by pairing language lessons with immersive K-culture workshops and local experiences over a five-day stay. The K-Culture Experience Village program, organized by K-Bridge International at Busan Arpina in Haeundae-gu, aims to transform short-term tourists into lasting fans of the city.
Program Details:
- Sessions: Two five-day sessions—October 19-23 (50 participants) and November 16-20 (60 participants).
- Cost: $550 covering accommodation, meals, language classes, K-beauty and K-food workshops, K-pop dance sessions, and guided tours including a yacht trip and coastal walks.
Kim Kee-hun, the program’s founder, explained that the goal is to move beyond traditional sightseeing trips. He emphasized the importance of experiencing Korean daily life and culture rather than merely passing through as tourists.
Unique Attractions:
- The program will include influencers from the K-culture and travel sectors, chosen for their engagement with young fans of Hallyu rather than merely follower counts. Their involvement is aimed at attracting new participants in future sessions.
- Participants will also have access to cultural experiences, including K-pop dance classes and K-beauty workshops.
Kim, with extensive experience at the Korea Tourism Organization, conceived this idea after recognizing a gap in immersive K-culture education. Following extensive recruitment trips, he found a strong demand for such cultural exchanges, particularly among potential tourists from Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Starting in 2024, K-Bridge will expand the program to offer longer stays (one to four weeks) with more comprehensive language and cultural immersion.
Strategic Vision:
The initiative aims to turn temporary visitors into long-term “related population” who may return to Korea for further language studies or higher education. Kim added that Busan possesses significant tourism assets, but it needs to better package these into memorable experiences for tourists.
