Improvements on the Horizon for Blawnox Business District

Blawnox officials are planning enhancements along Freeport Road as part of a beautification project, aiming to improve the business district with benches, tables, trash cans, signage, and more. The project, estimated at $50,000, will be financed through a Main Streets Allegheny Implementation grant, requiring no local funds. Discussions have began, with Borough Manager Cory Dennison emphasizing a collaborative approach involving community input.

Local business owner Ronny “Moondog” Esser supports the improvements but suggests that increased parking would significantly benefit the area. Dennison reaffirms that the aim is to create a more attractive environment to draw customers. Mayor Anthony Gross also advocates for colorful displays, such as hanging baskets, and emphasizes the need for a welcoming sign at the northern end of the borough.

The borough has a year to utilize the grant funds and seeks to continue previous beautification efforts, including tree planting.
