A young Dutch racer, Loek Hartog, is being celebrated for his heroic actions during the China GT series in Shanghai. After a multi-car crash involving British driver Ollie Millroy, whose Ferrari became engulfed in flames, Hartog stopped to help. Initially unable to free Millroy from the driver’s side, Hartog used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames and ultimately rescued him from the other side of the car.
Millroy expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “I owe my life to you,” and shared his intent to tell his children about Hartog’s bravery. Millroy sustained several injuries, including broken ribs and a bruised lung from the accident.
In response, Hartog downplayed his actions, mentioning he wished such bravery was a common instinct and expressing gratitude for being in the right place at the right time. Following the incident, organizers of the event acknowledged the need to review safety protocols and improve emergency response measures.
