Driver Rescued from Burning Car in Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) — A driver is safe after escaping a burning vehicle on Sunday, September 6th, thanks to a courageous passerby.
At approximately 8:07 a.m., the Ithaca Police Department received reports of a vehicle fire on the 300 block of North Fulton Street, with someone still inside. Officers and firefighters promptly arrived on the scene.
According to police, the driver was trapped but managed to escape before emergency responders arrived. An unknown passerby broke the front passenger-side window and assisted the driver to safety.
The driver reported that smoke began to emanate from the vehicle before it quickly ignited. The road remained closed to traffic for around 40 minutes as crews managed the situation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Ithaca police.
