Wisconsinites Encounter Elevated Fuel Costs and Crowded Roads During Labor Day Weekend | Travel

Labor Day Weekend Travel Costs Surge

Travel experts are warning consumers to brace for the highest gasoline prices seen in recent years this Labor Day weekend. In La Crosse County, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is approximately $3.84, a stark increase of 90 cents compared to last year.

For diesel drivers, the situation is even more challenging, with prices hitting an all-time high of $5.85 per gallon nationwide, and around $5.87 in La Crosse County.

Despite these rising costs, travelers are not dissuaded from hitting the road. AAA spokesperson Morgan Dean noted that “people have prioritized travel and downtime away from work,” demonstrating a willingness to navigate the financial strain.

In addition to high gas prices, AAA warns of increased road congestion due to the holiday weekend travel rush. They identified the worst times to travel as follows:

  • Friday, Sept. 4: Noon to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 5: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 7: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

To assist travelers, AAA is offering its Two-To-Go service for free this weekend. Drivers needing a sober ride home can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO for a complimentary ride and tow home.

Stay safe and plan accordingly as you enjoy your holiday travels!
