Xbox enforces new monthly usage restrictions on cloud gaming hours.

Microsoft is set to introduce new limitations to its Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming service, starting this November. The hourly streaming limits will vary by subscription tier:

  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours per month
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours per month
  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours per month

While Xbox claims this change will only impact about 4% of subscribers, it signifies a notable shift away from unlimited streaming. In addition to subscribed users, non-subscribers will have the option to purchase hours through the Xbox store.

This announcement coincides with the impending release of Grand Theft Auto VI, which will not be available for streaming on Game Pass at launch but may be added later. If it is included, players will only have limited streaming hours.

Overall, this decision, alongside various recent controversies, is likely to affect the sentiment around Xbox, which has faced multiple challenges, including leadership changes and pricing increases. Imposing these streaming limits just before a major game launch may not improve public perception.
