Tacoma, Wash. – Police and animal control recently seized a total of 101 cats and kittens from a single residence in Tacoma.
The intervention was prompted by a welfare check after reports of an individual lying outside the home. During their visit, officers discovered numerous cats overcrowding the house. The owner initially surrendered 16 cats but later, after obtaining a warrant, animal control returned and seized an additional 85 cats.
Unfortunately, one cat was found deceased, and the rest were reported to be in poor health, suffering from issues such as fleas and upper respiratory infections. Many of the cats are currently under the care of the Humane Society for Pierce County and are receiving necessary treatments.
The owner may face charges as animal control prepares a case for the prosecutor’s office, although no arrests have been made so far. City regulations permit residents to have a maximum of six cats in their homes, highlighting the issue of pet overpopulation in Tacoma.
This situation raises concerns about pet hoarding and the need for stronger measures to address such instances.
