CANYON, Texas — Six West Texas A&M University students recently secured over a quarter of the total scholarship funds awarded to standout agricultural students nationwide.
The WT agriculture students were among 24 recipients of the $100,000 disbursed from the Colvin Scholarship Fund by Certified Angus Beef (CAB).
Since its inception in 2002, the Colvin Scholarship Fund has allocated $833,500 to 227 students pursuing careers in agriculture and the beef industry.
“Seeing these students pursue their passions in agriculture is truly inspiring,” said Danielle Matter, CAB’s director of content strategy. “Each scholarship recipient is not only talented and driven but also embodies the innovation, leadership, and dedication that will shape the future of the beef industry. We’re proud to support their journey and excited to see the impact they’ll make for years to come.”

Will Hauerland, Graduate Student in Animal Science from Sealy – $3,500 -
Undergraduate:
Kade Lawrence, Senior Animal Science Major from Canyon – $7,500 -
Graduate:
Ryan Heitschmidt, Graduate Student in Animal Science from Nazareth – $6,000
Shelton Luedke, August Graduate with a Master’s in Animal Science from Hondo – $4,000
Bailey Lamb, August Graduate with a Master’s in Animal Science from Huntsville – $3,000
Brittley Bowers, Graduate Student in Animal Science from Fredericksburg – $2,000
“Having been a Colvin Scholar myself, I understand the profound impact this scholarship can have on a student’s educational and professional journey,” stated Dr. Loni Lucherk, WT’s Gorden W. Davis Chair in Meat Judging. “It’s rewarding to see WT students recognized by a program investing in the future of our industry. These six students exemplify the talent, work ethic, and passion for the beef industry we strive to cultivate at WT. We are proud of their achievements and thankful to Certified Angus Beef for supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders.”
Each scholarship recipient is focused on a career in production agriculture, industry research, or another agricultural field.
CAB’s commitment to these scholarships honors the legacy of co-founder and former executive director Louis “Mick” Colvin, who envisioned the scholarship program.
Lawrence and Heitschmidt will represent WT at the CAB Annual Conference from September 9-11.
