Florida may soon host the U.S. Space Academy, as announced by Republican Senator Ashley Moody. The proposed academy aims to train future space leaders, leveraging Florida’s established role in military and commercial space activities on the Space Coast.
President Trump recently established the academy via executive order, and Moody plans to introduce legislation to formalize its location in Florida, emphasizing the state’s significance as “America’s launchpad to the stars.”
The Space Coast already supports key facilities like Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, with launch activity surging over 500% since 2016. Moody’s plans also include other initiatives to boost Florida’s position in the space sector, such as tax-exempt bonds for spaceports and relocating NASA headquarters to the Space Coast.
While specifics about the academy’s location remain undisclosed, the initiative signifies Florida’s growing influence in the national space program.
