Hyundai Motor Group has embarked on a significant initiative in Oman, partnering with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) to advance smart city development and zero-emission mobility as part of Vision 2040. This collaboration includes the rollout of the first hydrogen city bus, a 24-seat Hyundai ELEC CITY Fuel Cell, set to operate on Muscat public transit routes from Q3 2026 through Q3 2027.
The pilot program aims to evaluate the bus’s performance and inform future expansions and procurement strategies. Alongside this, Hyundai Motor Group is also collaborating with Oman Oil Marketing Company (OOMCO) and EV charging brand EVO to install a 240kW ultra-fast electric vehicle charger in Halban, near Muscat, with testing planned for Q3 and Q4 2026.
Hokeun Chung, Executive Vice President at Hyundai Motor Group, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the group’s commitment to realizing Oman’s Vision 2040 goals through innovative mobility solutions. This arrangement indicates a strong commercial intent beyond mere market testing, as Hyundai positions itself as a key player in Oman’s transition to sustainable transport solutions.
