Stomping Grounds Opens in Midtown Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A well-known Midtown Memphis venue has been transformed into Stomping Grounds, a family-centered space where children can play while parents relax, work, or connect with fellow families.
Formerly the Railgarten space, Stomping Grounds now features both indoor and outdoor play areas, creative activities, and a variety of food options. Co-owner Lindsey Shanmugasundaram articulated the concept, stating, “Kids can play, parents can chill, and [it’s] just a happy little place for our community.”
Shanmugasundaram and her neighbor, Andrew Mathewes, envisioned this space after observing their own children playing together, aiming to cater to the needs of both children and adults. The venue is designed to evoke a cozy living room atmosphere, making it a welcoming environment for parents.
Children can explore, climb, and slide while parents enjoy coffee or wine and catch up on work. The venue is also set to launch The Art Project in October, allowing kids to engage in artistic endeavors.
In partnership with Wild Beet Salad Company, families can also enjoy dining options. Owner Kelcie Nollner expressed excitement about contributing to the community.
While the space has been reimagined, efforts were made to preserve its historical character, including commissioning local artists to create new murals.
Shanmugasundaram hopes Stomping Grounds will foster community and create lasting memories: “Where kids can just be free and be themselves, and parents can figure it out together because it takes a village, literally.”
Families can access Stomping Grounds through memberships or day passes.
