DC Librarian Launches Paid Internship to Inspire Interest in Library Science – WTOP News

Christopher Stewart launched a paid internship program for students in D.C. school libraries in 2019, aimed at raising awareness of library science, especially among Black and Brown students. Now the senior librarian at Garnet-Patterson S.T.A.Y. High School, Stewart is hiring two library brand ambassadors to help design programs and engage in library tasks while earning $20 per hour.

Half of their pay is saved for future goals, such as home purchasing and education, with an emphasis on community empowerment. Stewart believes in proactive efforts to diversify the field of library science, encouraging students to explore potential careers in the discipline and emphasizing the importance of research in promoting community development.
