The EcoTarium Museum of Science and Nature in Worcester has announced an exciting event: ten local students will have the opportunity to speak live with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in October. This live communication will utilize the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) system, allowing students to engage directly with space.
Noreen Johnson Smith, President and CEO of the EcoTarium, expressed the thrill of using radio waves for such communication, highlighting its historical significance and educational value. The specific date for the communication, which will occur from October 12 to 17, will be confirmed by NASA later.
Additionally, the EcoTarium will host a public celebration on October 17 featuring educational activities focused on amateur radio and space exploration. This initiative is part of the EcoTarium’s mission to inspire curiosity and a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
