The mural project in Logan Heights is set to celebrate the area’s cultural and musical heritage through two large-scale murals funded by the partnership between the Logan Heights Community Development Corporation and several state agencies. With a budget of $270,000, the murals aim to beautify and bring respect to the community, showcasing influential artists like Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole.
Located at key entry points under Interstate 5 and state Route 15, the murals will highlight the neighborhood’s unique Black and Latino roots. The artists, including Isabel Garcia and Jose Guzman, are excited about collaborating and working on such a large scale. Organizers hope these vibrant artworks will also help deter tagging in the area. Completion is expected by the end of September, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October.
