Ava Waterman Joins Fredonia Central School District as New Science Teacher

Ava Waterman, a recent graduate from SUNY Fredonia, has been appointed as the new Science Teacher at Fredonia Central School District.
Waterman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Adolescence Education: Biology and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Inclusive Education. She has Initial Certification in Biology for Grades 7-12.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox praised Waterman’s positive attitude and readiness to begin her teaching career. She completed her student teaching at Bemus Point Central School District and gained additional experience at Dunkirk City School District.
Middle School Principal Jamie Polhamus expressed enthusiasm about Waterman’s energy, stating, “She brings that positive energy – a brand new teacher, ready to get started. She’s just full of sunshine.”
In addition to Waterman’s appointment, the Board appointed nine new Teacher Aides, effective August 31, for the upcoming school year and approved various per diem substitutes and coaching positions. The Board also accepted resignations and made adjustments to staffing hours.
Furthermore, the Board approved the tax warrant for the 2026-27 school year, with a total tax collection amounting to $17,912,595, set to begin on September 1. A contract for occupational therapy services with Children’s Educational Services, Inc. for $21,105 was also approved.
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, at 6 p.m. in the High School Library.
