Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced they would be moving back to the U.K. for an extended period, Kate Middleton and Prince William have remained silent on the matter. They have a strained relationship with the couple, but a source told People that circumstances could improve with time, although currently, they are “taking a careful approach.”
The couple is resisting any “knee-jerk reaction,” choosing instead to observe Meghan and Harry’s new chapter in Britain. “They are watching this space. It’s private—they don’t feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly.”
If a reconciliation occurs, it’s expected to “be a slow build,” as there is a deep sense of betrayal between them.
Recent sources indicate that William and Harry are currently in “no contact,” with William particularly hesitant to change that status.
A palace insider highlighted the challenges Kate and William have faced in recent years, including Kate’s cancer diagnosis; she announced in January 2025 that she was in remission after treatment in 2024.
