Melody Ehsani revamps the inaugural Women’s Air Jordan.

The new Women’s Air Jordan OG sneaker, designed by Melody Ehsani in collaboration with Jordan Brand, features reflective 3M piping and a notable cherry emblem. Launched during Women’s History Month, this sneaker has a rich history as it was the first Air Jordan created specifically for female athletes, released in 1998, just two years after the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) was established.

The sneaker’s reissue in January sold out rapidly, attracting a new wave of sneaker enthusiasts. Ehsani’s interpretation of the shoe, which will retail for $150, reintroduces key elements while honoring the legacy of the original design. The updated version utilizes a black base with red trim to pay homage to basketball legends Michael Jordan and Sheryl Swoopes.

Ehsani, who has a background in basketball and has made a name as a prominent designer, felt both pressure and honor in reviving this classic. The enlarged cherry symbol on the sneaker represents abundance and empowerment, resonating with women during a time of continued struggle for equality.

The shoe’s release will be complemented by additional merchandise, including jewelry and T-shirts referencing the film “Love & Basketball,” which has influenced Ehsani’s creative vision. The collaboration emphasizes her commitment to celebrating women in sports and culture, as well as fostering community through her work.

Proceeds from sales will support Swoopes’ nonprofit organization that aids African American youth. Ehsani’s personal and professional journey reflects a blend of her passions, illustrating the interconnectedness of basketball, design, and her advocacy for women.
