Free Bus Travel for Children This Summer in England
This August, children aged 5 to 15 in England can travel for free on buses, helping families manage costs during the summer holidays. This initiative aims to save families an average of £1 to £2 per journey, allowing for more spending on outings such as ice cream or snacks.
The announcement follows the UK Government’s reduction of VAT on certain children and family attractions, making days out in places like North East Lincolnshire more affordable.
Councillor Paul Batson expressed enthusiasm, noting that this opportunity allows families to enjoy their holidays without as much financial worry. Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, emphasized the importance of public transport, encouraging families to utilize buses instead of cars for enjoyable day trips.
For those over 15, concessionary options are available, including free travel for pensioners and those with disabilities through a Concessionary Fares scheme. More information can be found on their website. Additionally, members of the Horizon Youth Zone can travel for just £1 each way.
Looking ahead, from January 1st to December 31st, 2027, bus fare caps will set prices at £2 for everyone outside London, making public transportation even more accessible.
