Complimentary bus rides for children are the perfect solution.

Free Bus Travel for Children in Somerset

Children and young people aged 5 to 15 in Somerset can enjoy free bus travel across England starting August 1st until August 31st, 2026, as part of the Government’s Kids Go Free scheme. This initiative, facilitated by Somerset Council in partnership with local bus operators, aims to make travel more affordable for families.

Key Benefits:

  • Cost Savings: Child fares usually range from £1 to £2; this initiative offers families a chance to save significantly on travel costs.
  • Additional Free Travel: Under-5s already benefit from free travel on main bus operators.
  • Affordable Family Outings: With the ongoing £3 fare cap for adults, visits to local attractions like the Somerset seaside, Glastonbury Tor, Exmoor, or Wookey Hole will be more budget-friendly.

Quote from Councillor Richard Wilkins:

“I am delighted that Kids Go Free will be on offer this August, making travel a lot cheaper for families. It’s also great for the environment as it provides a real alternative to taking the car, and it supports our local businesses and tourist destinations. I’m sure families will be able to enjoy and explore what their county has to offer.”

This initiative not only eases travel costs for families but also promotes public transport as a sustainable option.
