Ita Airways has introduced a new service, “Large Dog On Board,” allowing dogs weighing up to 30 kg to travel in the cabin without a carrier on select domestic flights. This service, starting on August 3, can be booked through the airline’s Customer Information Assistance Office at least four days prior to the flight.
The initiative follows a successful demonstration flight from Milan to Rome in late 2025, where two large dogs traveled in the cabin. The service is authorized by ENAC, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, and initially permits two large dogs: one up to 30 kg in Business Class and another up to 15 kg in Economy Class.
In the first two months, a maximum of two small dogs (up to 10 kg) will also be allowed in Economy Class, at least eight rows away from large dogs, with plans to potentially increase this number later. Ita Airways intends to expand this service to international flights in the future.
Joerg Eberhart, CEO of ITA Airways, emphasized that this service addresses customer needs, facilitating travel with pets while ensuring safety and comfort for all passengers.
