$47 Million Funding to Revitalize Historic Winery in Hammondsport – Finger Lakes Daily News

Historic Pleasant Valley Winery in Hammondsport is set to reopen with a $47 million investment by its new owner, Vine Enterprises, LLC, which aims to restore operations at this significant New York wine facility. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the redevelopment plans that include hiring 69 employees, reviving legacy wine brands, and restoring the winery’s historic Champagne Cellars.

Empire State Development is providing up to $12 million in grants, alongside a $100,000 grant to promote New York wines. Pleasant Valley, founded in 1860 and recognized as Federally Bonded Winery No. 1, was crucial to New York’s wine industry for over 160 years until it ceased operations last year.

The investment is expected to bolster the regional economy and support local grape growers, as the Finger Lakes region continues to gain national acclaim as a premier wine destination. New York boasts over 400 wineries and is the nation’s second-largest wine producer, generating nearly $16.8 billion in economic activity and supporting over 83,000 jobs.
